Maddy is possibly the only one of the original gang who could sustain a book by herself (I may take that back later in the series, but at the moment she’s the one who has stood out most strongly as an independent spirit). She’s principled, indignant, outspoken, precocious (‘I expect my sorrows have aged me’) and entirely without guile. Madeleine was born in Leicester and lived with her family in Rothley, also in her parents' request, she was made a ward of court in England shortly after the disappearance, which gave the court statutory powers to act on her behalf. Police described Madeleine as blonde-haired, with blue-green eyes, a small brown spot on her left calf, and a distinctive dark strip on the iris.

The fifth and final book in the Blue Door series, which starts with The Swish of the Curtain, the classic story that inspired actors from Maggie Smith to Eileen Atkins 'I wanted to act before I read this book, and afterwards there was no stopping me' Maggie Smith Maddy got up and did her Junior Miss speech, trying not to overdo the comedy/5(6).
